We got married 17 years ago today! We marked the occasion with a sunrise hike at a 7,000+ yr old archeological site in Nevada. The crater-like depressions and elongated grooves on the boulder behind us is called a “pit and groove” petroglyph style and this particular one has been dated to at least 7,000 years ago. This is an active archeological site with active excavation work on going.

This site has revealed thousands of years of human history, with artifacts and volcanic ash layers providing insight into the lives of the ancient peoples who inhabited the region. The Northern Paiute people are now referred to as The Paiute-Shoshone Tribe of the Fallon Reservation and Colony, a federally recognized tribe of Northern Paiute and Western Shoshone Indians in Churchill County, Nevada.

This region is the basin of Lake Lahonta, a pre-historic body of water that spanned a large part of modern day Nevada.
